Congress today approved a budget reconciliation bill, which contained several key components that strengthen the farm safety net. President Trump is expected to quickly sign the legislative package, called the “One Big Beautiful Bill.” The American Association of Crop Insurers, Crop Insurance and Reinsurance Bureau, and National Crop Insurance Services released the following joint statement about the bill.

“The crop insurance industry applauds lawmakers for including critical crop insurance provisions in the newly passed budget bill. These provisions reflect a strong, continued commitment to protecting America’s farmers and ranchers from risk and uncertainty.

“This legislation enhances affordability, expands coverage options, strengthens delivery, and ensures long-term integrity of the program. Notable improvements include expanded benefits for beginning farmers and ranchers, higher coverage levels and greater discounts for area-based products, and increased premium assistance for individual policies.

“Importantly, the bill also addresses the rising cost of program delivery by providing a much-needed inflation adjustment and targeted support for loss adjustment in high-loss regions and specialty crop policies. It also makes a significant investment in oversight, dedicating millions to ensure the program remains financially sound and compliant.

“We are especially grateful to the lawmakers and staff who worked tirelessly to advance these provisions and reinforce the public-private partnership that underpins crop insurance. Their work will help producers continue to feed, clothe, and fuel the world despite mounting economic and weather-related pressures.”
