Podcast Explores What OBBB Means for Crop Insurance

The latest episode of Keep America Growing, the official podcast of the crop insurance industry, takes listeners inside the recently passed budget reconciliation package – nicknamed the “One Big Beautiful Bill” – and its implications for crop insurance.

Hosted by NCIS President Tom Zacharias, the episode features two of the industry’s most recognizable government relations pros: Tara Smith of the Crop Insurance and Reinsurance Bureau (CIRB) and Scott Graves of the American Association of Crop Insurers (AACI).

Together, they walk through the major provisions of the bill and what they mean for farmers, ranchers and the future of the crop insurance system.

Highlights of the legislation include:

  • Extended benefits for beginning farmers and ranchers to support the next generation that will produce food, fiber and fuel for America.
  • Expanded area-based insurance coverage, including for popular specialty crop coverage.
  • Improved premium assistance to farmers to help boost insurance participation and reduce taxpayer risk exposure.
  • Adjusted the administrative payments made on behalf of farmers to account for inflation and ensure efficient program delivery.
  • Funded additional activities to maintain strong oversight and program integrity.

Zacharias, Smith and Graves discuss how these updates reflect growing bipartisan support for the crop insurance system and may shape future Farm Bill debates.
